Gabrielle Union’s Inspiring Healthy Lifestyle

Gabrielle Monique Union, or just Gabrielle Union, is a well-known American actress that began her career in the 1990s and has written a total of four books outside of acting. Besides being an outspoken advocate for issues involving women’s health and violence against women, she is also an icon for being a healthy example for people to follow.

When it comes to “fitspiration” and “ageing like fine wine,” Gabrielle Union is definitely among those ladies in the entertainment industry. Nearing 50 years old, you could definitely say that Gabrielle Union looks at least two decades younger than that.

During the Coronavirus pandemic, the long period when the whole population was forced into their homes, a lot of people got used to the sedentary lifestyle and failed to keep their fitness levels up. However, if you look through Union’s social media posts and look at how she has been doing recently, being a “couch potato” really looks like it doesn’t apply to her. In bikini photos and exercise videos, it makes everyone wonder what was her secret to a blooming and healthy physique?

Although it appears effortless, Union never fails to remind everyone how hard she had to work for and maintain her body. Even though she is indeed blessed with wonderful genes, she helps her body out by eating healthy and staying active.

“I have a family history of diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol, and I know that can lead to an early death. I want to be a vital and energetic part of my family for a long time, not to be big mama in a rocking chair in the TV room, or huffing and puffing just going upstairs. I work out not because I get off on it, but because I want to live!” she told Women’s Health.

Union starts her mornings early with coffee and makes sure people aren’t left waiting on her. ‘How much would it cost if I cancel? What does traffic look like? Should I go back to sleep?’ she thinks and comes to the decision that she doesn’t like leaving people hanging. For her full-body workouts, she makes sure she challenges multiple muscles at once and she shares her training videos with her 20 million followers.

In addition to doing 15 to 20 minutes of cardio daily, Union credits her toned body to a regular combination of strength training and Pilates.

“I’m not a morning person, but I have to work out early because of my schedule. The great thing about Pilates is that I can take out my annoyance from waking up early on the machines instead of human beings. It’s for the greater good. My body responds to it, and I’m also more clear,” she said.

Union makes sure she gets her daily dose of vitamin D. She’ll use a trail, a park, or walk down the street with the dogs so that she isn’t trapped inside. While Union follows an “almost vegan diet” most of the time, she does love and eats meat occasionally. She also eliminated gluten, soy, and dairy and found that it made a huge difference.

Finally, like everyone, she enjoys her occasional cheat days as well! She has an occasional rib-eye steak but she cuts down the portion. However, the one thing she isn’t willing to give up is alcohol and we can all see that the joy of getting to have her favourite beverage has its lovely effects on her body.
